『プーと大人になった僕』オープニングと「プー横丁にたった家」最終章を読み較べる

『プーと大人になった僕』のオープニングでは、少年クリストファー・ロビンが寄宿学校に通うため100エーカーの森を離れるシーンが描かれます。
これは、原作「プー横丁にたった家」の最終章にあたるシーンです。
映画では原作の最終章をどう描き直しているのか、そのセリフを見比べてみましょう。

イーヨーの詩

映画はお別れパーティーのシーンから始まります。
このシーンはディズニーで初めて触れるシーンです。
「プー横丁にたった家」最終章から、イーヨーが読むお別れの詩を見てみましょう。

この詩のうち、太字部分が『プーと大人になった僕』でイーヨーが読む詩です。
短くしただけで、原作そのままであることが分かります。
直後の”If anyone wants to clap, now is the time to do it.”のセリフも原作そのままです。
映画ではその後パーティーではしゃいでプー以外が寝てしまいますが、原作ではこの詩をクリストファー・ロビンが読んでいる間に気まずくなってプー以外が立ち去ってしまいます。
そしてクリストファー・ロビンはプーを連れて「魔法の場所」へと出かけます。

一番好きなこと

What do you like to do best in the world, Pooh?
原作と映画に共通するセリフです。
それに対するプーの答えを原作から見てみましょう。
What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying “What about a little something?” and Me saying “Well, I shouldn’t mind a little something, should you, Piglet,” and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing.

何もしないこと

別れ

原作ではその後、学校で教えてくれることなどの話が入ります。
そして2人の間に沈黙が訪れ、最後の会話になっていきます。

Pooh thought for a little.

“Ninety-nine.”

映画版も書き起こしてみます。
P:Pooh.
C:I’m not going to do nothing anymore.
P:Never again?
C:Well, they don’t let you at the boarding school.
C:Pooh…
C:When I’m off not doing nothing, will you come up here sometimes?

映画版ではプーの”Where will you be?”からセリフが大きく変わっています。
クリストファーの返事”I’ll be right here.”はプーの頭を指しながらのセリフです。

最も大きなポイントは、「100歳になっても忘れない」という会話部分。
原作ではクリストファーが”Pooh, promise you won’t forget about me, ever. Not even when I’m a hundred.”と話します。
クリストファーが100歳になってもプーは僕のことを忘れないでね、ということをクリストファーが言います。
一方映画では、”I won’t forget about you, Pooh. I promise. Not even when I’m a hundred.”というセリフに。
クリストファーが100歳になっても僕はプーのことを忘れないよ、とクリストファーが言います。
原作ではプーがクリストファーを忘れないという話なのに対し、映画はクリストファーがプーのことを忘れないという話。
この差が、『プー僕』におけるクリストファー・ロビンのその後の人生を示唆しています。

原作を活かした映画の導入

こうして見ると、『プーと大人になった僕』のオープニングが原作の最終章をほぼ踏襲したものであることがわかります。
原作の最終章は全20章ある原作の中でも特に印象的な部分で、暗唱してしまうような部分です。
映画ならではのセリフ変更が行われることで、覚えているような人にはその後のクリストファー・ロビンの成長した人生を暗示してくれています。
